Dying Into Being I
A posthumous portrait is the condensed imprint of life’s final chapter, while a surname serves as the signifier of bloodline lineage.
I collected twenty-five posthumous photographs of strangers sharing my surname. These images were then digitally overlaid using graphic software, with equal transparency increments, causing each face’s features to dissipate through stratification, ultimately coalescing into one new face.
It bears all, yet belongs to none.
Dying Into Being II
The act of burning paper artifacts has since antiquity functioned as a delivery conduit to other realms, bearing humanity's imagination of and faith in death-bound existence; while artificial intelligence stands as the emblematic apex of human civilization.
I generated twenty-five hyperreal Chinese faces through AI, though never having existed in reality, they construct fleshly representations visually indistinguishable from truth.
Through a printer, I translated their digital visages onto paper, then performed a ritual burning, reducing the sheets to ash.
Though they originally possessed no life, they gained another form of existence through burning.
